Do a safety check before firing up the grill this spring
Before you slap those T-Bones on the grill this Spring, take a few minutes to perform a safety check on your gas grill. Some simple checks can help to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones as you enjoy the warming days outdoors. 1. Check your hose connections. Ensure they are firmly connected and not leaking gas. A soapy solution of water and dish washing detergent can help you determine this. 2. Check grill hoses for cracking, holes and leaks. Does the hose appear to be brittle? If so, it may be time to replace them. Make sure there are no kinks in the hose or tubing. 3. Ensure that the hoses are not close to burning or hot surfaces. Ensure that no hot, dripping grease will come into contact with the hoses. 4. Keep flammable liquids away from the grill area. Do not store extra propane tanks in or around your grill. 5. Ensure that the inside of the grill, the burners, and the hoses are clean and free from obstructions. Birds, spiders, or bugs may have called your grill 'Home' over the winter. A thorough cleaning should be in order each spring, or after a period of non-use. 6. Test the ignitor to ensure it is providing good spark. If not, replace it. Never light your gas grill with matches. This is a recipe for disaster. 7. Verify your grill is stable and sitting on level ground before operating. Most importantly enjoy the nice weather and the opportunity to get back outdoors again. I'll take my steak medium-well.
